Check in at your hotel around 2 PM and settle in before the evening adventure. Later, head to the ticket office at the Old Harbor in Reykjavik and get ready to board the boat. Our expert guides, familiar with the aurora forecast and the bay, specialize in finding the perfect spot to view the Northern Lights.
The boat will sail away from the city lights, ensuring an unobstructed and breathtaking view of the Northern Lights. Relax as the boat glides across the North Atlantic waves, while the magical Aurora Borealis dances in the sky above.
To enhance your experience, we’ll present a captivating video about the Northern Lights, filled with Icelandic folklore, stunning photos, and fascinating facts. The boat features a cozy café and a bar, perfect for staying warm and entertained while waiting for the lights to appear. We also provide overalls for those who wish to stay comfortable on the deck.
After enjoying this incredible natural display, we’ll return you to the harbor, from where you can head back to your hotel for the night.
Today’s tour takes you to Iceland’s famous Golden Circle, featuring its three iconic highlights: Thingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss.
The journey begins at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the historic site where Iceland’s first Parliament, Althingi (Alþingi), was established in 930 CE. Thingvellir’s unique geology features a rift valley between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates, which are slowly drifting apart, making this remarkable site continually expand.
Next, visit the Geysir Geothermal Area. While the once-active Geysir now rests, its neighbor Strokkur never fails to impress. Marvel as Strokkur erupts, shooting water up to 25 meters high every 10 minutes, offering an unforgettable natural display.
The final stop on the Golden Circle is Gullfoss, the renowned Golden Falls. Here, the mighty Hvita River roars down in two stages before plunging into a dramatic canyon. The cascading water creates a golden mist, often accompanied by vibrant rainbows near the falls.
After exploring the Golden Circle, the tour continues toward the South Coast. Weather permitting, enjoy the sight of Mount Hekla en route to Seljalandsfoss, a unique waterfall that offers the chance to walk behind its flowing curtain.
Tonight’s accommodation is near Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a quaint town in the South. Far from light pollution, this location provides excellent conditions for spotting the Northern Lights. With a bit of luck and favorable weather, you may witness the auroras dancing across the sky!
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we continue eastward, traveling through lava fields, desert sands, and past glaciers resting on the horizon, including Vatnajökull, the largest glacier in Iceland.
Next on the tour are Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the nearby Diamond Beach. The lagoon is adorned with floating icebergs of various shapes and sizes, many of which drift onto the black sands of Diamond Beach. The striking blue icebergs glisten like diamonds against the dark backdrop. Keep an eye out for playful seals lounging along the shore.
From Jökulsárlón, the journey takes us to Skaftafell for a new adventure. Between October and April, we’ll step onto the Vatnajökull glacier with the guidance of a certified glacier guide and explore a stunning natural ice cave. During the summer months, we’ll visit Katla Ice Cave near Vik instead of embarking on a glacier hike.
Tonight, we return to the Kirkjubæjarklaustur area for our accommodation. Before settling in for a well-earned rest, we’ll set out on a Northern Lights hunting adventure. Snowy peaks and glaciers create the perfect backdrop for the auroras as they dance across the night sky.
Day 4 is devoted to exploring the South Coast and its stunning attractions. If road conditions allow, we’ll take a small detour to Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon, famously referred to as “Bieber’s Canyon.”
Next, we’ll visit the iconic Eldhraun lava field, where your knowledgeable guide will share fascinating insights about what makes this site so unique. From there, we’ll continue to Reynisfjara black sand beach, renowned as one of the most beautiful non-tropical beaches in the world.
At Reynisfjara, the dramatic Reynisdrangar basalt sea stacks rise majestically by the shore. Combined with the powerful waves of the Atlantic Ocean, they create breathtaking and unforgettable views.
Our next stop is Skógafoss, where water cascades from a height of 60 meters. For those seeking a challenge, 527 steps lead to the top of this majestic waterfall. On clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of the renowned volcano, Eyjafjallajökull, towering above the falls.
In the evening, we’ll return to Reykjavik, where we’ll stay in a comfortable city hotel for the night.
Today is all about discovering Reykjavik! You have the entire day to explore the city and immerse yourself in its vibrant local culture.
Begin your adventure by visiting charming boutiques, cozy coffee shops, and fascinating museums. Some museums even offer a Northern Lights experience, allowing you to enjoy auroras right in Reykjavik!
If you prefer the outdoors, take a stroll along the old harbor or wander the scenic shoreline by the Atlantic Ocean.
For a true Icelandic experience, don’t forget your swimsuit! Unwind at one of the many spas or swimming pools scattered throughout the city.
Finally, savor traditional Icelandic cuisine and pair it with a selection of local drinks for a memorable culinary experience!
